How it works

A governed collaborator, not a chatbot.

Number One maintains a structured vault of records you have authorized. Every session begins with your vault — not a reconstructed chat history. Every new record requires your approval before it is committed.

The vault

Your vault is an isolated, structured store of records. It is not a chat log. It is not a document. It is a governed set of typed records — each with a class, a confidence level, a verification status, and an audit trail.

Records are grouped by project. Each project has its own facts, decisions, assumptions, evidence, outcomes, and lessons. Number One never conflates context between projects.

The propose → approve → commit workflow

01

Propose

During a session, Number One identifies something worth recording. It drafts a proposal — a typed record with a title and content — and presents it to you for review. It does not commit anything without your instruction.

02

Review

You read the proposal. You can approve it as written, edit the content before approving, or reject it. Rejected proposals are logged but not committed. Expired proposals are discarded.

03

Commit

Once you approve, the record is committed to your vault. A content hash is generated. An audit event is logged. The record is now part of your authorized context and will be available in every future session.

04

Correct

If a committed record is wrong, you issue a correction. The correction is a new record that references the original. The original is marked as corrected. The audit trail shows both. Nothing is silently overwritten.

How sessions work

When you open a session with Number One in ChatGPT, the Custom GPT reads your vault through a secure API connection. It loads your active projects, committed records, and recent audit events. It does not rely on chat history.

This means you can close a session, return a week later, and Number One will have accurate context — not a reconstruction, not a summary, but the exact records you authorized.

The ChatGPT Custom GPT is connected to your account via OAuth. Each tester has their own OAuth connection. Number One cannot access another User's vault.

What Number One is not

Not a general-purpose chatbot

Number One is optimized for long-horizon collaboration, not quick answers. It is not a replacement for ChatGPT's general capabilities.

Not a document store

Your vault holds structured records, not documents. If you want to store a document, you reference it — you do not upload it.

Not autonomous

Number One does not take actions without your approval. It proposes. You decide. It does not write to your vault, send emails, or make changes on your behalf.

Not installed on your computer

Number One operates through a web portal and a ChatGPT Custom GPT. Nothing is downloaded or installed on your device.
