Answers about Number One, the vault, the beta, and what the system can and cannot do.
What Number One is
Number One is an AI collaborator that gets to know you — with your permission. It works with you across sessions, projects, and time by maintaining a governed vault of information you have explicitly approved. It is accessed through a Custom GPT inside ChatGPT and managed through a portal at mynumberone.ai.
When you first sign in, Number One offers a short, optional Quick Start — approximately five to ten minutes. It asks about your current goals, priorities, active projects, communication style, decision preferences, and any standing instructions. Your answers are converted into proposed vault records, and you see the exact result before anything is saved. You can skip the Quick Start and add information later at any time.
No. OpenAI currently states that Custom GPTs do not use saved memory, Custom Instructions, or previous conversations. Each Custom GPT conversation starts fresh. Number One cannot search or import your ChatGPT memory. It becomes useful through the information you deliberately provide and approve in your separate Number One vault.
The vault and your information
Your vault is an isolated, private store of records you have approved: goals, decisions, working assumptions, project context, preferences, and lessons. Each record has a type, a confidence status, and an audit entry. You can correct, supersede, or remove any record at any time. Nothing is installed on your computer — your vault lives at mynumberone.ai.
No. Number One proposes records when something appears worth retaining. You review each proposal and approve, edit, or reject it. Nothing enters your vault without your explicit approval. Conversation content that you do not approve is not retained in the vault.
No. Custom GPT conversations are between you and ChatGPT. The operator does not have access to the content of your ChatGPT conversations. The operator can access vault records and audit events stored in your Number One vault, as described in the Privacy Notice.
Applying for the private beta
Use the Apply button on this site. You will be asked how you would like to try Number One, what you wish ChatGPT did better when working with you, and a few confirmations. No specific project is required to apply.
No. Submitting an application does not create an account or vault. An account and vault are created only after you receive an invitation, verify your email, and accept the Privacy Notice and Private Beta Participation Agreement.
Every application is reviewed individually. There is no automated selection. You may be approved, placed on the waitlist, asked for more information, or declined. The beta is limited to five active testers at a time.
Your application is reviewed. If approved, you will receive a private invitation by email from [email protected]. Add that address to your contacts and check your inbox and spam folder. The invitation is personal, expiring, email-bound, and single-use. You will then verify your email and accept the required agreements before your account and vault are created.
If all five places are filled when your application is reviewed, you may be placed on the waitlist. You will be contacted if a place becomes available.
Only after you receive an invitation, verify your email, and accept the effective Privacy Notice and Private Beta Participation Agreement. Not before.
During application: your name, email, how you want to try Number One, what you wish ChatGPT did better, and your consent confirmations. During agreement acceptance: your typed legal name, identity affirmation, separate acceptance of each document, and supporting evidence including the document versions, a timestamp, your IP address, and browser information. Approval and invitation messages are sent from [email protected]. Add that address to your contacts before applying so the message does not go to spam.
No. Invitations are personal, email-bound, and non-transferable. An invitation issued to one email address cannot be used by a different person or email address.
Agreements and participation
You must separately accept the Privacy Notice and the Private Beta Participation Agreement. Both must be finalized and have an effective date before registration opens. Draft versions are available on this site for review.
Yes. You can withdraw from the beta at any time through your account portal or by contacting [email protected]. You can also request export of your data or deletion of your account and vault records.
Signed-in testers can submit structured feedback through the Review page at mynumberone.ai/review. Testers can also contact the operator directly through the Contact page.
